Diane Simmons (real name Diane Rodriguez) is one of the co-anchors (the other being Joyce Kinney) of Quahog's Channel 5 News, alongside anchor Tom Tucker, field reporter Tricia Takanawa, and meteorologist Ollie Williams. Diane is a professional and competent news anchor, often providing a counterbalance to Tom Tucker's more flamboyant and self-centered personality, and she is dedicated to her career, which is reflected in her authoritative and confident approach to delivering news.

Diane has short auburn hair, which she wears covering her ears, such that only her round red earrings are visible. She wears a red suit jacket and pencil skirt over a pink button-up shirt, and matching red high heels which are usually invisible behind the news desk. Additionally, Diane wears makeup such as mascara and lipstick, even when she isn’t on camera—she is, by all reports, a pretty if image-focused lady, owing likely to her experience in broadcast journalism, which can be a cutthroat industry for female talent.
Diane’s interactions with other characters, including Lois Griffin and others in the Quahog community, are usually characterized by a superficial sense of mutual respect—albeit this is sometimes strained by the competitive nature of the news industry and her ambitions. For example, she and Tom Tucker have a noted off-air personal distaste for each other, and Diane has attempted to destroy Tom’s career before—and likely will attempt to do so again.
Additionally, Diane is currently married to Peter and has been for many years without Lois’s knowledge. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Diane is known by many men in Quahog as “the town bicycle”.
Diane's personality showcases the balancing act between a public persona as a trusted news anchor and the personal issues and complexities that lay beneath that professional exterior. She portrays herself as professional, composed, and somewhat self-serious in her role as a news anchor. On-air, she maintains a polished, focused, and determined demeanour, often serving as the “straight man” counterpart to Tom Tucker's more sensational and egotistical presentation style.
Off-air, however, Diane more freely expresses human flaws, including an intense ambition and a sense of rivalry with other characters in the media industry within Quahog.
Diane is generally intelligent and competent, but she has a strong sense of self and significant gaps in her knowledge and ability. For example, Diane has crippling dyslexia, which she chooses to mask as best she can when on camera instead of finding a career more suited to her skills. Additionally, Diane is unable to pronounce certain words, like “5”, but insists she is fully competent—and certainly at least as competent as Tom Tucker.
This is a dangerous mix of personality traits, which occasionally veers into being overly serious about her perception of events, or even becoming altogether detached from reality with her reporting—a scenario which historically has led Diane to willfully produce propaganda, spreading false facts and twisting people’s words to mean the worst possible things, rather than accept new information. This volatile personality is all the more stressed by information that Diane Simmons famously died some short months ago—information which caused Diane to go into a mental breakdown upon remembering the experience.
